Should I choose the Back or the Side of the Bus…???

A question always asked is which side is better…? There is no data to prove which side is more effective.. However the below information may be helpful to explain the sales virtues of the different sides of a bus.

Kerbside:

Faces the footpath, shopfronts and also the loading passengers and other transiting passengers.

Good for broad pedestrian exposure, public transport travellers, transit stations,  viewers from shops, offices and parks.

This is a highly commercial aspect utilised by “call to action” campaigns designed to market directly to people who are at street level ready to make purchasing decisions. Popular for fast food, Telco’s, entertainment etc.

Driverside:

Faces Traffic, particularly spectacular when turning through intersections.

Good For general transit exposure in light and heavy urban traffic and some pedestrian exposure too.

This is the “cleanest” side of the bus signage opportunity, unimpeded by doorways making it perfect for the medium – largest format signs that cut through . Site your headline above the traffic by using the high window line.

Full Back:

Faces parked traffic and slowly approaching traffic.

Good for those looking to improve branding recall or advertisers with a more complex message. The signage faces the parked viewer for extended periods of time (sometimes repeatedly) allowing time for the message to ‘soak’.

This position is popular with all advertisers; however, it is the smallest and most obstructed side of the bus with grills and legal signage. Availability can be limited in small fleets.

What is it…??

Total cover is a new panel type, similar to a Full Wrap (The Ulimate) If your budget cannot stretch then this is the next  best option..

The whole bus is yours for branding. So you have all 3 sides of the bus..However there is no FULL  window coverage.

OK!, so School buses are only on road Monday to Friday; 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. But then that is peak time…most people are on the road heading to work!

Bus Backs are the best..!

Which panel type works better..?

So does the bus back work better than the side..?

Everyone loves the bus back..80% of the inquires I receive daily are from business owners or marketing staff, asking about bus backs.. and I guess it is because most of the time we are sitting behind them in traffic, they pull out in front of us (ggrr!) and when we stop at traffic lights we are staring at them and have no where else to look….but are they more effective.

I have no data or evidence to prove that they are, but they are very popular. So if you are weighing up to use bus backs or sides for your next campaign… then consider the following.

Bus backs are only visible to consumers if they are in traffic or in a car…Sides of the bus are visible in traffic and as they are facing out, are ALSO visible to consumers that walking around, in the parks, shoppers, people that are looking out office/residential windows..etc.

So my recommendation is to mix it up, if you are booking multiple buses, then mix between bus backs and bus sides… for example see images below to show a campaign using same creative and using two panel types.

Routes

Ok, so one of the questions I get asked alot is… “…Can I choose where the buses go..?” or “So what routes are available..?”

The simple answer is No.. the buses do not travel the same routes, so if you are planning on booking a campaign of 5 buses, these 5 buses will be on different routes each day, and tomorrow a different set of routes again.. so you are receiving total coverage on the Gold Coast… Also you will not be stuck on a route doing the same run in an area that maybe you believe you should not be… the wonderful ting about the residents on the Gold Coast is we travel.. we do not necessarily live near where we work..

Also, each Surfside bus spends an average of 16 hours a day, 7 days a week on road.
